The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work, (General Applications) Regulations 2007, Chapter 4 of Part 2 set the minimum health and safety requirements for the manual handling of loads in the workplace.

Manual handling risk assessments must involve employee consultation in the process that will have identified, hazards and controls measures’ to reduce risk factors that can lead to manual handling and muscloskeletal injuries.

During the risk assessment the work area layout and the characteristics of specific tasks carried out in the work area, including weight of loads, frequency of handling the tasks and nature of loads will be assessed.
